My dear sister Katie is turning 29 today. I would be afraid to announce that fact if I thought anyone other than my family (who already knows her age) read my blog. But, I realized some time ago that no one cares about my life enough to read my ramblings. And, seeing as how she’s the only sister I will ever have, I decided that in honor of her birthday, she deserves an entire post on my blog.
We are siblings--of course we don't have a perfect relationship. But, we are extremely close and I can't imagine my life without her. There are times we want to kill each other, but that's life.
So, without further adoo... I give you 29 reasons that I love Katie Lee.
In no particular order...
--Her heart; sincere, honest, pure, truthful.
--Her personality; Katie is one of the funnest people in the world to be around. We have the best time together (a HUGE blessing in my life).
--Her sense of humor; she is sarcastic, witty and just plain hilarious! Especially when she is talking about the hotel we stayed at in LA (inside joke—OMG it’s hysterical).
--Her intelligence; She would never admit it, but the girl is brilliant. She used to cry when she made 98s instead of 100s in school. It rubbed off on me.
--Her selflessness; She is so generous. She took me to Celine twice, orchestrated all sorts of concert road trips, and after she got her first job, she paid for every penny of every trip we have been on since (which includes Celine—the concert with $400 (per person) tickets). I’m the most spoiled little sister in the US in the entire world.
--Her support; She believes in me even when I can’t.
--Her protective nature; You mess with me, she’s coming after you. Watch out.
--She set such a great example for me.
--We have a blast together! And we laugh about the craziest things! Like Habib *clap clap*.
--She genuinely cares about other people.
--Her patriotism; even though he life is crazy and hectic, she somehow finds the time to send care packages to US troops stationed around the world.
--She is such a softie! She cries during the sappiest movies. I may or may not point, snicker and laugh at her when this happens.
--She is a great teacher. I’ve only been a part of her study hall during her first year at her school (how in the world she made it out of that classroom alive is something I’ll never know), but the kids there love her. And I know she makes a difference.
--I can depend on her. What she says she will do, she does.
--She goes out of her way to make me happy. Katie is a little freakishly squeamish. I had to have surgery the week before my 20th birthday, which happened to be her first (I think) year teaching junior high English. My mom was able to take off work and get me to and from class, but she came home literally every single weekend to relieve my parents and just keep me company. I can’t explain to you how much pain I was in, but it helped that she came in to town (she had to be just exhausted) and watched movies or just sat and cried with me. And for my birthday, my mom was too exhausted to take my friends and I to see Rent, so once again, it was Katie to the rescue. She took four 20 year olds and me with a huge cast and crutches to see the movie (in the theatre, no less) and never once complained. That’s love.
--Her smile; It’s beautiful. And lights up the room.
--We have some of the most awesome inside jokes ever. I don’t expect you to understand, but here are a few examples: the uncanny baseball comment, Camp Meemaw, the modified “flip off”, the list goes on and on and on. Great times.
--She is such a great auntie. I realize this is a slightly retarded reason, but I couldn’t leave the Sadiekins out. And my Sadie Jane loves her Auntie Katie, so it fits.
--Even though we had an unfortunate four wheeler accident the day before I started kindergarten, she has taken pretty good care of me since then. No dropping on my head, no running me over with the car (almost doesn't count). Overall, she's been very good to me.
--Because she makes me happy and blesses my life just by being in it.
--She has some common sense. And she knows how to use it. Stupid people annoy me. Thank God she has a brain and knows how to use it well!
--She makes me laugh until I cry.
--And when I call her in complete breakdown mode, she helps me find the silver lining. And then she cries with me.
--She's such a good friend and I know the friends she has would say the same thing.
--She is successful and works hard for what she has.
--She knows how to be thankful and count her blessings.
--Her faith in God in all circumstances is so strong and steadfast.
--She has good taste... in music, food, movies. Basically, she rocks.
--Because she is mine. And nothing will ever change that.
I love her more than she'll ever know. I hope you have a great birthday.
