School Review

Sorry I am a few days late on this school update, but I've been busy. So sue me.

So, without further adoo...

Clinical Methods
A review of clinical methodologies used in speech-language pathology and audiology, including specific c clinical activities, report writing, and professional development.

So, this class should be alright. The teacher is really sweet and actually happens to know my mom (score!). She will teach us a certain number of therapy techniques and then assign patients. Then we have to use the therapy tool that she assigns for each specific patient. Should be interesting. She seems really sweet and fun, and I've seen her do therapy, and she's amazing.

Speech Science
An introduction to the production, perception, and processing of speech, including acoustic phonetics.

This class just might be my favorite. It's the same teacher I had for Anatomy, Dr. D. AKA the fellow hater of Kat the phonetics demon an amazing teacher. This is the second half of the cadaver lab that we will do (we'll disect the male; last semester was the female). Should be tons of fun! No, I am not a freak.

Hearing Science
An introduction to the physics of sound, acoustics, and psycho-acoustics.

At orientation last summer, we were assigned to "families". My "dad" is my teacher for this class, and he is so much fun! He is witty and sarcastic and therefore rather entertaining. I think his tests might eat me alive be incredibly hard, but maybe not. He is one of those people who just oozes smartness so it's pretty likely that his tests will be pretty tough. But, he sortof has a fun way of figuring grades. We will take four tests, each worth 20% of our grade. Then, the fifth and final 20% of the grade will be our average of the first four tests. So, if you do well on the first four tests, the last one is pretty much a freebie. Here's hoping I don't completely choke.

Language Development
An introduction to current theories of language and language development, including methods of obtaining and analyzing language samples.

Pretty sure I will despise this class. It's Kat the phonetics demon the evil one again. UGGGGGGH! Every week, we will cover more useless information that I'll never ever use 2 years of the human life span. Then, we will have an open book test. The problem with the open book test? In my experience, they are always always always harder than closed-book tests. It just sucks. And, she announced at our SGA meeting the other day that we would have 20 minutes for at least 25 questions. Oh goodie... How nice of her.

Clinical Audiology
An introduction to hearing assessment techniques and auditory disorders, with adaptation of testing for special populations such as infants, geriatrics, and different language backgrounds. The student will gain proficiency with pure-tone, speech, and impedance testing techniques.

I think this class will be pretty fun, too. My teacher is a little wacky out there, but it should be okay. She seems to at least have her stuff together, so that will help. I don't really know what to expect in terms of tests, other than she said they will be most multiple choice.

So, that's all folks! I'll try to keep you posted on the semester!

See you at the finish line!
