“For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise.” 1 Corinthians 1:26-27
Celsus, the early critic of the church, scorned Christians. He saw them as fools presenting themselves to the world with this appeal: “Let no one educated, no one wise, no one sensible draw near. . . . But as for anyone ignorant, anyone stupid, anyone uneducated, anyone who is a child, let him come boldly.”
To Celsus, the uncool people called Christians proved the stupidity of the gospel. To Paul, the uncool people called Christians proved the glory of the gospel.
God wasn’t stuck with the leftovers. He got first dibs. And he chose the uncool people, to shame the cool people.
