Do you ever just have days where you feel like you're in a pit...a dark, dreary, deep pit?
You know what I’m talking about. Those days.
The ones where you just want (need?) to crawl into a closet and sit alone in the quiet and cry.
Quiet desperation.
I remember when I would dream of having a husband and children and all the fun and love that would fill every day in my future with them. Rainbows and butterflies…every day.
I don’t know what I was drinking, but it wasn’t reality.
The truth is, life is hard…really freakin’ hard.
The kicker?
It’s not even meant to be easy.
Earth is the battle ground where we toil and persevere until our reward in glory.
Yes, we have glimpses and even days of pure joy and fully alive living, but overall, we’re fighting thorns through every path because rebellion is in the DNA of person and planet.
However…
When the cold splash of reality startles our very core, we must remind ourselves that we are in a very real battle for life.
"But Lord, how can I engage the battle when I'm tired and depleted and lost so many days?"
Listen...
"Come to me...you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest...rest for your soul."
Before we can take up arms in this cosmic battle, we must crawl out of the pit and curl up in the Refuge...the Refuge by only one name.
Jesus Christ.
And I don't know about you, but I need all of Him that I can get.
So today, if you are battle-worn, instead of finding yourself in quiet desperation in that dark closet, bend a knee under His wing.
Allow His grace to cover you and His rest to penetrate your soul,
then rise up from those ashes, roll up your sleeves,
and fight.
